Harris Winick Harris is pleased to announce the hiring of two accomplished lawyers, Andrea M. Despotes and Marisa K. Perry. 

Harris Winick Harris congratulates Jeffrey Charkow on becoming a member of the Society of Illinois Construction Attorneys (SOICA). Mr. Charkow was nominated for membership by his peers because of his demonstrated expertise in the field and his high ethical and professional standards.  Robert Harris, Jeffrey Winick, and John-Paul Lujan are also members of SOICA.

A pair of nationally prominent senior tax partners from Neal, Gerber & Eisenberg LLP have joined Harris Winick LLP to form the Firm's new Tax Controversy and Tax Planning practice group.  With a combined 60+ years of legal experience, Ken Harris and Bob Bedore will collaborate, as they have for the past 14 years, to provide the highest quality tax counsel and advice to their clients both in tax controversy and tax planning matters.  The Firm will now be called Harris Winick Harris LLP.

The Firm, in partnership with the Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights under Law, represented an African-American individual alleging claims of racial discrimination associated with his employment at a local restaurant. The plaintiff prevailed in a jury trial in the Northern District of Illinois and was awarded not only all the past and future wages claimed, but was also awarded punitive damages. Daniel Dorfman and Alexander Rozett were pleased to work with the Chicago Lawyer’s Committee in handling the matter.

After having served as an arbitrator in a series of high stakes arbitrations over the past several years, Robert Harris has been appointed to the American Arbitration Association’s Regional Roster of Neutrals. The American Arbitration Association (AAA), which is the nation's leading provider of alternative dispute resolution services, selected Mr. Harris based on his outstanding qualifications, accomplishments and reviews from the prior arbitrations. Bob has a unique ability to manage the alternative dispute resolution process, evaluate and apply legal, business or trade principles in a fair and equitable manner and is looking forward to working with parties to seek resolution of their disputes.

The Firm’s attorneys represented a publicly traded international hotel chain in connection with the drafting and negotiating of all design, consulting and construction agreements for the development of a hotel and resort in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where the costs of construction were estimated to be in excess of $300 Million. The representation involved close coordination with local Brazilian counsel and successful navigation of cultural and language barriers. 

Jeffrey Winick, John-Paul Lujan and Jeffrey Charkow have recently published a chapter entitled Claims for Disruption/Loss of Productivity for the IICLE^® Construction Law Library devoted to the litigation of construction disputes. Mr. Charkow made a presentation involving these issues at the IICLE Critical Issues in Construction Litigation seminar in October 2013.
